I took today off for a personal “retreat.” Working on planning for the rest of the year and thinking through what I want to accomplish with my side projects, grad school and more. I need to do this more often.
Quick Thoughts
Shorter than a blog post. Like a tweet, but on a service that isn’t run by Nazis.
Tonight at Jillian’s middle school honors art show. I made her take a picture with her self portrait, but all of her stuff was great. So proud of Jilly.
π· #9: Bloom: Tiny roses.
π· #8: Union. Sky+Ocean. Sun+Sand.
Happy Mother’s Day, Lizzy. I couldn’t imagine navigating parenthood without you by my side. You are one in a million. Love you.
This kiddo went to Prom tonight.
Iβm glad my kids love lacrosse, but Iβm really excited that both Norahβs and Ryanβs seasons are over and our evenings and weekends return to normal for a few months.
Final lacrosse games of the season today. Ryan had fun in goal this season. Proud of how much he’s grown as a goalie.
π· #7: Park. At a park today for the last 10U lacrosse game of the season.
π· #6: Silhouette. Eltonβs down there somewhereβ¦ from a few weeks ago.
π· #5: Earth. Dried and cracked mud.
π· #4: Thorny. A little bit literal with this one. The rose bush in our front yard. πΉ
π· #3: Experimental. This week, I’ve been experimenting with charcoal grilling. I’ve always had a gas grill, but wanted a different experience so we purchased a Weber grill and a chimney starter. New recipes and grilling techniques. Having fun, but still learning.
Interesting study on sleep finds that for middle aged and older adults, seven hours of sleep is ideal. Confirming that I need to sleep a little moreβ¦ π΄
Second attempt at using our new charcoal grill. π₯ Heat issue is resolved. Although now, the temp might be a little too high.
π· #2: Photo. The cover of a 1970s photo album.
πΈ #1: Switch. Keychron K2 with red hot swappable switches.
I’m starting with a clean Micro.Blog slate. Still trying to configure things so I post on my Squarespace blog, it comes to Micro.Blog and then posts to Twitter.
Goalie.
Happy Easter from Team Wertz.

Ryan in goal for games for the first time. Had some good stops and played really well. And he loves being a goalie.
Lacrosse on a rainy night. Chapin on the road at Dutch Fork tonight.
Lots of people ask me how I balance a full time job, working on a Ph.D and being a dad. Sometimes, you are the only parent at lacrosse practice writing a research paper.
Ryan built a fort in our backyard. It’s big enough for him to fit inside. Pretty impressive.
Norah had a great first varsity game and scored a goal. Looking forward to this season.
Varsity this year. #15.
