High school football. Chapin vs. Mid Carolina.

Happy anniversary, Lizzy. Hard to believe it’s only been 23 years. Happy to be married to such an amazing partner and friend.

The traditional Team Wertz “It’s still dark out” first day of school picture. Liz with her first day at Piney Woods and her robot arm. Ryan’s first day at Chapin Intermediate. Jill’s first day at Chapin High. And Norah starts her senior year.

Sunrise over two countries.

Detroit.

Date night with my amazing wife.

We thought we could get our nightly walk in before the storm hit…

We were wrong. 🤣

After a long rain delay… play ball.

Visited Virginia Tech, Roanoke, James Madison and Radford this week. Tech was a clear favorite for Norah.

Liz and I voted this morning first thing. I was on my way to work and she was headed to the gym. No matter how busy you are, make time to vote in the primary today. Turnout will be low and your vote really matters. #vote

Also, shoutout to the election workers at Cornerstone Pres, which is always the most organized precinct around.

Ruby is enjoying sunbeams this morning.

This kindergarten teacher will have a new playground next year. We moved two carloads of boxes to Liz’s new classroom at Piney Woods Elementary and more are temporarily at our house. Moving a classroom is a lot of work. I’m excited to see the awesome things she’ll do next year and beyond.

This is my fourth grader. He’s 10. I picked him up from school yesterday and he was so excited to tell me about his field trip and his upcoming play. We stopped and got ice cream. I took a quick picture…

At the same time I took this picture, a classroom of fourth graders was massacred in Texas.

One of Ryan’s earliest memories is running from a mall in a stampede where there was a reported shooting. He was young, but remembers being scared when he got separated from his sisters.

It’s time to do something about this. Gun violence is the number one killer of children. And more guns is not the solution. Easier access to guns is not a solution. Arming teachers is not a solution. You can’t make every school into a fortress. You think the problem is mental illness? Then how are you going address that? We need action. More of the same is clearly not the answer. It’s time to act.

Proud of our Jilly. All As for Middle School. (7th and 8th grade.)

Tonight at Jillian’s middle school honors art show. I made her take a picture with her self portrait, but all of her stuff was great. So proud of Jilly.

Happy Mother’s Day, Lizzy. I couldn’t imagine navigating parenthood without you by my side. You are one in a million. Love you. ❤️

This kiddo went to Prom tonight.
